Police adjusts entry requirements for new recruits from April 1
The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) announced today (March 30) that with effect from April 1, the Hong Kong residency requirement for recruit police constable, probationary inspector, and auxiliary police constable will be adjusted, and urine drug tests will be introduced in the recruitment process.
Starting from April 1, the Hong Kong residency requirement for recruit police constable, probationary inspector, and auxiliary police constable, i.e. “has lived in Hong Kong for at least seven years”, will be removed. The applicants are only required to fulfil the criteria of being “a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”.
The Police spokesman said, “The HKPF adopts a proactive recruitment strategy and regularly reviews the recruitment policy to attract high-calibre candidates. The adjustment to the residency requirement will enable the HKPF to align with the practice of other local disciplined services on relevant entry requirement, and maintain its competitiveness in the job market.”
The HKPF also attaches great importance to the integrity of its members and endeavours to strengthen their discipline through implementing a wide range of policies and measures. The Integrity Audit Action Group implemented the “Voluntary Drug Test Scheme” in late 2020. To align with the integrity management strategy, the HKPF will introduce urine drug tests in the recruitment process starting from April 1. All applicants submitting job applications on or after the date will be arranged to undergo urine drug tests during the selection process.
The HKPF will rollout different recruitment activities taking into account the pandemic development. Apart from launching a new series of recruitment videos through various platforms, the HKPF will continue to hold Recruitment Experience and Assessment Days and deploy a promotion vehicle “Police Mobile Recruitment Station” to connect with potential candidates. To further attract local and overseas students, the HKPF will continue to participate in the Education & Careers Expo. In addition, outreach programmes including career talks and workshops for higher education institutions will be held later this year.
"With the continuous effort to facilitate applicants and enhance publicity, it is anticipated that more high-calibre candidates will join the Force," the Police spokesman added.
