Person in custody commits suicide by hanging at Stanley Prison
A 32-year-old male person in custody at Stanley Prison committed suicide by hanging yesterday (July 7).
At 8.44pm yesterday, a correctional officer found that the person in custody had committed suicide by hanging with a bedsheet tied to the window grille bars of his cell. The officer immediately called for reinforcement to provide first-aid treatment and called for an ambulance to send the person in custody to a public hospital for rescue. He was subsequently certified dead at 10.06pm.
The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The deceased was convicted for the offence of murder in February 2023.
