Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital announces passing away of COVID-19 patient

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) today (December 29) announced that a patient confirmed with COVID-19 infection passed away today.
 
     A 59-year-old male patient (case No. 6894) with chronic illness was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital on December 6 due to shortness of breath. He subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. His condition deteriorated while receiving treatment and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of PYNEH one day later. His condition continued to deteriorate and he eventually succumbed at 12.05pm today.
 
     The hospital is saddened by the patient's passing and will offer necessary assistance to his family.
 
     Including the above patient, 139 COVID-19 confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.
