The Labour Department (LD) will hold the Wan Chai Job Expo – Building a Multicultural Workplace at Southorn Stadium on September 14 and 15. This job expo aims to enhance the employment opportunities for job seekers, including those from ethnic minorities, and promote the LD's employment services to them.
A total of 48 organisations will participate in the two-day job expo and offer over 3 300 vacancies. Twenty-four organisations will set up booths and conduct recruitment activities on the spot each day. The vacancies cover a wide variety of positions including telesales representative, receptionist, shop assistant, clerk, aero engine repair trainee, security guard, driver, storekeeper, technician, cashier, barista, cook, waiter/waitress and packer. Many of them are suitable for job seekers of different cultural backgrounds.
In addition, seven training bodies will provide information on training courses for visitors. A mini-exhibition will be set up to introduce the employment services of the LD. On-site interpretation services in Hindi, Urdu and Nepali will be available.
Around 80 per cent of the vacancies offered in the job expo are full-time jobs and most vacancies offer monthly salaries ranging from $11,000 to $19,000. Over 98 per cent of the vacancies require a Secondary Six education level or below. Around 67 per cent are open to job seekers without relevant experience.
Job seekers can submit job applications during the event and may be selected for on-the-spot interviews. They can also make enquiries on the employment services provided by the LD at its counter at the venue.
The job expo will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at 1/F, Southorn Stadium, 111 Johnston Road, Wan Chai (near Exit A3 of Wan Chai MTR Station). Admission is free, with the final admission time being 5pm each day. Appropriate infection control and crowd control measures taking into account the latest epidemic developments and the number of visitors will be implemented at the venue. All visitors are required to scan the venue QR code using the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application, or register their name and contact number, as well as the date and time of entry, by completing a personal particulars form.
