Getting things done – Miller’s Wynd car park #dundeewestend


There have recently been complaints about some cars being parked inappropriately in the Miller’s Wynd car park, outside designated spaces and on the wood barking to the front of the community fridge.

I raised this with the council’s parking team on behalf of residents.



Getting things done – Riverside Drive #dundeewestend


Some weeks ago, I had a site visit with a member of West End Community Council and a City Council officer about several issues on Riverside Drive.

We agreed that some cycle parking provision just east of the car park at the Bridgeview Station Restaurant would be a good idea, particularly as there is plenty space for this.

I raised this with the City Development Department at the council and received a positive response.    The Senior Project Officer, Active Travel Strategy has now advised further :

“I am working on a wider cycle parking project which focuses on the city centre and I aim to fold the installation at Bridgeview into that wider package of works.

I have to complete the wider project by March 31st 2022 but I intend to have the work completed before then. I will of course provide you with a further update once I have more definite timescales from the contractors.”



Getting things done – Blackness Library #dundeewestend


Numerous residents have been in touch with me in recent weeks about the fact that the lift in Blackness Library has been out of action – a real issue for library users who cannot manage the stairs to get up to the reading/meeting rooms upstairs.

I contacted the Head of Libraries at Leisure and Culture Dundee about this and she has updated me as follows :

“There is a  problem with the doors and the lift engineers have advised against using the lift. They were in the library last week and told our librarian that they are trying to source a part which needs to come from Sweden. 

Hopefully this will be resolved soon, and there won’t be a  further delay due to current supply  issues obtaining goods from abroad, as not having the lift is having a serious impact on access to and usage of the upper floor in Blackness.

The Blackness librarian is keeping the customers who need lift access to the first floor aware of the current situation with weekly phone calls.”

Queen Victoria Works, Brook Street #dundeewestend

As residents are aware, over a protracted period, I have raised concerns about the deteriorating state of the former Queen Victoria Works in Brook Street (the rear of the site backs onto Lower Pleasance).

I have recently received further concerns about the security of the site and the very poor condition of it and I raised this again with the planning team at the City Council.

I have now had the following feedback :

“There has not been any recent engagement with the planning authority in respect of this site. I have passed the concerns about site/building safety onto colleagues in Building Standards to look into.

I will also arrange for the current owners to be contacted to ascertain what intentions there are for the site.”

I will continue to keep residents updated on this.
