REPORT FOR WEST END WARD – WEEK COMMENCING MONDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2019

Westfield Lane – closed for up to 5 weeks for building repair works.

Minto Place – closed for 7 days from Friday 8 November for carriageway resurfacing.  Access maintained for residents.

Forthcoming Roadworks

Tullideph Road (City Road to Ancrum Drive) – closed westbound on Sunday 10 November for BT pole renewal works.



Friends of Wighton – latest update

Lunchtime Recital with Kaitlin Ross, voice, and Catriona Hawksworth, piano
Wednesday, 6th November, 1.15pm – 1.45pm
Wighton Heritage Centre, Central Library


Kaitlin and Catriona form a Scottish traditional song and piano duo. 

They blend Kaitlin’s singing of traditional Gaelic and Scots songs with Catriona’s contemporary piano style, creating a unique sound. 

The duo began playing together in secondary school, meeting at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton.   They have since both gained degrees from the University of Highlands and Islands, and Newcastle University. 

Between them they have performed across Europe in a number of bands and projects including Eabhal, HEISK, Sally Simpson and Catriona Hawksworth; and Rafiki Jazz.

Admission free, donations for Live Music Now are welcomed. 



Botanic Garden event #dundeewestend

Pea gin: how your choice of afternoon tipple could help save the rainforest 
Botanic Garden – Sunday 3rd November

Pete Iannetta, James Hutton Institute will discuss a study that found that the environmental footprint of pea gin was significantly lower than for wheat gin across 12 of 14 environmental impacts evaluated – from climate change, through water and air pollution, to fossil energy consumption.

Held in the Education Centre in the Garden at 2pm;  a free event to Friends of the University of Dundee Botanic Garden; others – donations welcome.

SSEN Pitfour Area Cable Renewal – Phase 2:  City Road (Pentland Avenue to Scott Street) closed southbound for up to 3 weeks.

Westfield Lane – closed from Tuesday 22 October for 5 weeks for building repair works.



Ninewells Community Garden event next week #dundeewestend

Next Wednesday – 30th October – from 10am to 1pm, the community garden’s Mosaic Group is again meeting.
A monthly group learning about and making mosaics, it is making a mosaic trail for the grounds of Ninewells Hospital, and attendees also work on their own projects.
No experience necessary and all materials, tuition and refreshments provided, though donations are welcome.
