OFCA announces 5G Campus Application Competition finalists
The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) announced today (August 25) the list of 10 school teams that have qualified for the final round of the 5G Campus Application Competition.
The Competition is organised by OFCA and co-organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) for all secondary schools in Hong Kong under the theme of "5G Campus for Smart Life". It aims at enhancing secondary school students' understanding of the enormous potential of 5G technology and its extensive innovative applications, so as to encourage their active participation in the development of advanced technologies and innovative industries through the application of 5G technology.
Launched in May this year, the Competition consists of two contest rounds. The first round submission of entries closed at the end of July, with entries by 33 teams from 29 schools received. The entries are rich in content, covering a wide range of 5G technology applications in various aspects in education, such as facilitating the more efficient learning of students, enhancing campus facilities, providing diversified learning experiences and improving the environment of the school's neighbouring community. The submissions fully demonstrated the innovative ideas of the participating teams, and manifested their innovative thinking in the realm of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
The first round judging panel comprised representatives from OFCA and the HKPC. After a detailed assessment based on the scoring criteria, 10 entries have been shortlisted to compete in the final round (listed below in alphabetic order of the school names):

The finalists are required to submit their final entries on or before October 20 and attend the final round competition to be held in early November. They will give presentations of their entries with demonstrations using software applications, gizmos, prototypes, demonstration videos or any other creative ways to compete for the championship, first and second runner-up placements and merit awards. The final round judging panel, comprising representatives from OFCA, the academic sector and research institutes as well as experts from the industry, will decide on the winners based on the scoring criteria. Results of the Competition will be announced at the award presentation ceremony to be held in December.
