â€‹A new section of the GreenWay, about 500 metres long, at the Kai Tak Promenade in the western part of the former runway area is open to the public from today (January 17) (please refer to the location map). It is the second section of the GreenWay opened for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists in the Kai Tak Development (KTD).

The newly opened section is situated alongside Victoria Harbour, offering users scenic views of the harbour. With a width of about six metres, the GreenWay provides sufficient space for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists. Ground markings have been added along the GreenWay to guide pedestrians and cyclists to keep to their respective sides to maintain an appropriate distance from each other and enhance safety. Signs and speed-reducing rumble strips have been put in place at some locations to prevent cyclists from going too fast. Bicycle parking spaces are also available at the GreenWay. Moreover, a barrier-free walkway for pedestrians runs alongside the GreenWay, offering an additional option for the public.

At the initial stage after the opening, ambassadors will be present at the GreenWay to provide appropriate reminders to users. Banners listing relevant rules for users have also been put up on-site. The Government will step up publicity to enhance public understanding of the merits of the GreenWay and safety awareness.

With a total length of about 13 kilometres, the GreenWay in KTD connects open spaces in the area. The first section, located at the Kai Tak Promenade near the east of the Kai Tak Bridge, was opened in September last year, followed by the opening of the second section today. The remaining sections will be opened progressively in alignment with the implementation programme of infrastructure projects and open spaces in the area. The GreenWay was planned and designed by the Civil Engineering and Development Department, and the section opened today is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
