New round of Lantau Conservation Fund opens for application
The Lantau Conservation Fund (LCF) is inviting the 2021-2022 round of applications starting today (December 28) to provide financial support for eligible organisations to carry out three streams of conservation and related projects in Lantau, namely conservation management agreement, research, and education and engagement.
The $1 billion LCF was set up in 2020, with $500 million dedicated to providing financial support for eligible non-governmental organisations, charities, post-secondary education institutions and more to collaborate with local communities and landowners for implementation of conservation and related projects in Lantau. It is anticipated that the LCF will enhance the environmental capacity of Lantau, conserve its culture and rural character and promote sustainable development of the island.
A spokesman for the LCF Secretariat said that the application covers a wide range of areas, including natural environment, ecology, culture, history, rural character, landscape, geomorphology and other relevant elements. A total amount of over $50 million was granted to 18 projects in 2020-21. Details of the granted projects are available at the LCF website (www.lcf.gov.hk)
The application deadline for the new round of Research Projects and Education and Engagement Projects is 5pm on February 28, 2022, and 5pm on March 31, 2022, for Conservation Management Agreement Projects. The results will be announced in batches from mid-2022 to the third quarter of 2022 tentatively. The application form and guidelines can be downloaded from the LCF website.
