Murder and arson in Tai Po

     Police are investigating a murder and arson case in Tai Po today (July 12) in which a 42-year-old woman, her 13-year-old and 8-year-old daughter died.

     At about 1.50 am, Police received a report from a resident that a sound of dispute was heared from a unit at Heung Sze Wui Square.

     Police officers sped to the scene and located a 62-year-old man at the rear staircase of the building while his girlfriend and her two daughters were found collapsed at the unit. The man was rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in semi-conscious state and later conveyed to Prince of Wales Hospital. Sustaining multiple injuries, the 42-year-old woman was rushed to North District Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 3.27am. Sustaining multiple injuries, the 13-year-old girl and the 8-year-old girls were rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in unconscious state and were certified dead at 3.36am and 3.54am respectively.

     Initial investigation revealed that the man had a dispute with his girlfriend. He later assaulted his girlfriend and her two daughters with a knife and set fire inside the unit. Police later arrested the man for murder and arson. He is being detained for enquiries.

     Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the causes of their deaths.

     Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Tai Po District is underway.

     Around 13 residents were self-evacuated to places of safety in the incident.
