Mainland transit passenger jailed for conspiracy to obtain airline services by deception

A male Mainlander was convicted of conspiracy to obtain airline services by deception and was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment by the District Court today (October 25).

Immigration Department (ImmD) investigators apprehended a 57-year-old male Mainlander at an airline check-in counter at Hong Kong International Airport in November 2023. Investigations revealed that the man attempted to obtain boarding passes for Mexico via Switzerland from the airline by using a false Mexican permanent resident identity card. Moreover, a forged Schengen visa was found in his luggage during a search. The man admitted under caution that he procured the false Mexican permanent resident card and the forged Poland Schengen visa from a clansman for the purpose of seeking a job in Mexico.

An ImmD spokesman warned that, under the laws of Hong Kong, people who, by any deception, dishonestly obtain services from another shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable, upon conviction, to imprisonment for 10 years.
