The following is issued on behalf of the Major Sports Events Committee:

The Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) has awarded "M" Mark status to the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HK Section) Half Marathon 2024/25 (January 5), 2025 IBF World Cup (January 5 to 14) and IBF Para Bowling World Championships (January 17 to 24).

The Chairman of the MSEC, Mr Wilfred Ng, said today (January 3), "We are glad that the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HK Section) Half Marathon is held again this year. It has been elevated to a gold label road race by World Athletics, which is a recognition of the organiser in Hong Kong. As for the finals of the IBF Bowling World Cup, it will be held at the temporarily installed lanes at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Wan Chai, which can accommodate more spectators.  Last but not least, the IBF Para Bowling Championships is the first world championship for people with disabilities which has been awarded the "M" Mark status. We believe that hosting these world-class international sporting events in Hong Kong will enhance its status as the capital of international sports events."

The "M: Mark system aims to encourage and help local national sports associations and private or non-government organisations to organise more major international sports events and nurture them into sustainable undertakings. Sports events meeting the assessment criteria will be considered for “M” Mark status by the MSEC. Funding support will also be provided to some events.
