“M” Mark status awarded to three events
The following is issued on behalf of the Major Sports Events Committee:
The Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) has awarded "M" Mark status to three major international sports events to be held in early November this year, namely the Hong Kong Open 2023 (November 9 to 12), the FIA World Rallycross Championship Hong Kong, China – Season Finale 2023 (November 11 and 12) and the New World Harbour Race 2023 (November 12).
The Chairman of the MSEC, Mr Wilfred Ng, said today (November 3) that like all other "M" Mark events, these three events will add colour and vibrancy to Hong Kong and thereby bring in more visitors from abroad.
"The Hong Kong Open 2023, being one of the events held under the Asian Tour's International Series, will return to the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. In addition, the FIA World Rallycross Championship Hong Kong, China – Season Finale 2023 will take place in Hong Kong for the first time, which is also the first city centre circuit in its history. Together with the New World Harbour Race which once again becomes a major international sports event, the month of November will be an exhilarating one for major sports events. These events not only showcase Hong Kong's capability to host world-class events, but also enhance Hong Kong's position as a centre for major international sports events," Mr Ng said.
The "M" Mark System aims to encourage and help local national sports associations and private and non-government organisations to organise more major international sports events and nurture them into sustainable undertakings. Sports events meeting the assessment criteria will be granted "M" Mark status by the MSEC. Funding support will also be provided to some events.
