Young local pianist Jacqueline Leung will perform a selection of virtuoso compositions in a recital to be staged in August.
The programme will feature Beethoven's "Sonata No. 24 in F-sharp, Op. 78"; J S Bach's "Italian Concerto, BWV 971"; Scriabin's "Sonata No. 2 in G-sharp minor, Op. 19”; Villa-Lobos' "Chôro No. 5 'Alma Brasileira'"; Gershwin's "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise", "Do It Again", "Swanee", "The Man I Love" and "'S Wonderful"; and Ginastera's "Sonata No. 1, Op. 22".
Born in Hong Kong, Jacqueline Leung studied in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts' Junior Music Programme. She furthered her studies at the Wells Cathedral School with Hilary Coates in the United Kingdom. Upon graduation, Leung achieved a piano teaching diploma and a bachelor's degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London with a scholarship. She completed her master's degree with Tamas Ungar, one of the renowned pedagogues in the US, at Texas Christian University.
Leung has worked with distinguished musicians including Robert Aitken, Jasmine Choi, Trey Lee and Iestyn Davies. She has frequently served as a jury member at competitions, such as the 2nd Thailand International Mozart Competition and the Japan Piara International Piano Competition (Hong Kong). Since 2013, she has worked as a specialist piano presenter and masterclass teacher for the Trinity College London exam board, presenting in Asia. Leung is a laureate of the Antena 2 prize awarded by the national classical music radio station in Portugal, resulting in a live solo recital broadcast on national radio in 2015.
