The delegation of the Legislative Council Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene (the Panel) concluded its duty visit to Nanjing and Yangzhou today (August 24) and will arrive in Hong Kong in late afternoon.
In the morning, the delegation visited Hongmiao area in Xuanwu District of Nanjing to gain insights on how the local urban management unit implements the unified management model through collaboration with property management companies and environmental hygiene companies to keep the famous food street orderly and hygienic. Members hoped that Hong Kong could draw on the experience of Nanjing to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness in addressing long-standing environmental hygiene and street management issues.
In summing up the four-day duty visit, the delegation leader Mr Yang Wing-kit described the visit as rich and fruitful. "The experience and first-hand information obtained through the duty visit will facilitate Members in discussing with and making recommendations to the Government, in the Council in the future, on enhancing Hong Kong's food safety, as well as management of environmental hygiene services and cityscape, and fostering the development of local agriculture and fisheries." Mr Yang said.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the Panel, Mr Yang, visited Nanjing and Yangzhou from August 21 to 24. Members who also participated in the visit were the Deputy Chairman of the Panel, Mr Leung Man-kwong and Panel member Ms Doreen Kong, as well as non-Panel members Mr Paul Tse, Mr Tony Tse and Mr Gary Zhang. The Government delegation led by the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan, also joined the visit.
