The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Education began its visit in Oulu, the largest city in Northern Finland, yesterday (September 12, Oulu time) and visited the University of Oulu.
In the morning, the delegation first met with the Vice Rector for Education of the University of Oulu, Professor Helka-Liisa Hentilä, to receive an overview of the University's development and the Finnish higher education system. The University of Oulu is one of the biggest and the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland. Afterwards, the delegation toured around the campus and had lunch with the university staff.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Oulu University Teacher Training School functioning under the auspices of the Faculty of Education. During the visit, delegation members toured the facilities and observed classes to interact with teachers and students to learn more about the training programmes provided by the Oulu University Teacher Training School.
Delegation members then visited the Faculty of Education of the University of Oulu and exchanged views with the Coordinator, International Education of the Faculty, Ms Johanna Lampinen, on how education policies can make teacher training more effective. Members also took the opportunity to visit LeaF, a laboratory at the Faculty which supports learning and interaction research.
The delegation will visit the Oulu Vocational College and the Hiukkavaara School and Community Centre today (September 13, Oulu time) before departing for Hong Kong in the evening.
