The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Education departed for Finland today (September 8) to conduct a five-day overseas duty visit from September 9 to 13 (Finland time).
The visit aims at obtaining first-hand understanding on the education system in Finland as well as studying how the Finnish approach to education facilitates happy learning and multiple articulation pathways for students. The delegation will also take this opportunity to exchange views with the Finnish Government and relevant parties involved in the formulation and implementation of education policies.
The delegation will visit the following places and organisations:
Helsinki (September 9 to 11, Finland time)
- Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture
- Finnish National Agency for Education
- Parliament of Finland and its Education and Culture Committee
- Pihkapuisto Comprehensive School
- Day Care Centre Franzénia
- Helsinki Central Library Oodi
- Me & MyCity
Oulu (September 12 and 13, Finland time)
- University of Oulu and its Teacher Training School
- Oulu Vocational College
- Hiukkavaara School and Community Centre
The delegation is led by the Chairman of LegCo Panel on Education, Mr Ip Kin-yuen. Other participating members include the deputy leader Mr Vincent Cheng who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Panel; Panel members Mr Michael Tien, Dr Fernando Cheung and Ms Chan Hoi-yan; as well as non-Panel members Ms Elizabeth Quat and Mr Tony Tse.
