The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
The Legislative Council Panel on Economic Development conducted a visit to the Three-Runway System project site at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) today (September 28) to better understand the latest development of the project.
Members first viewed the Three-Runway System project site from the HKIA Tower rooftop balcony and received a briefing by the Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), Mr Fred Lam , on the construction progress, as well as the contribution of the Three-Runway System on enhancing Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub. Mr Lam also briefed Members on the development strategy of AAHK, under which HKIA would be transformed from a city airport into an Airport City through various development projects, thereby creating synergistic benefits to the economy of Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Members also saw for themselves the construction progress of related infrastructure. They were pleased to learn that AAHK could commission the Third Runway and the entire Three-Runway System in 2022 and 2024 respectively as originally planned.
Members who participated in the visit were the Panel Chairman, Mr Christopher Cheung; Panel members Mr Steven Ho, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Mr Shiu Ka-fai and Mr Luk Chung-hung; as well as non-Panel members Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Dr Junius Ho and Ms Yung Hoi-yan.
