Kyoto Ichinoden, a Japanese saikyozuke restaurant with a history spanning more than 90 years, opened a high-end Japanese omakase restaurant, Tominokoji Yamagishi, in Hong Kong today (September 13) as part of an expansion plan in the local dining industry amid continued growth in business.

The new restaurant branded Tominokoji Yamagishi is located in a prime shopping centre in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, providing 15 seats for booking and the very best of Kyoto cuisine, according to the President of Kyoto Ichinoden HK Limited, Mr Jumpei Tanaka.

Mr Tanaka said, "Kyoto Ichinoden was founded in 1927. Our first Kyoto Ichinoden restaurant in Hong Kong was opened in May this year and we have been successful. To sustain the growth momentum, we wanted to open an even more high-end Japanese restaurant in the city to promote high-quality Kyoto cuisine in Hong Kong. As we have a very close relationship with the founder and chef of Tominokoji Yamagishi, who actually was our head chef for more than 10 years, we decided to bring his brand to the city.”

He added, “Hong Kong people have a strong passion for Japanese food and always look for high-quality food and dining experiences. It gives us a good reason to bring a Michelin-starred restaurant brand here. The city is also very strong in terms of logistics and transportation, ensuring efficient supplies of high-quality ingredients for our restaurants.”

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Dr Jimmy Chiang said, "We are happy to see another Michelin-starred restaurant brand join our sophisticated food and beverage market. It shows the restaurant's confidence in and commitment to the city’s vibrant food industry. We wish it every success in Hong Kong and beyond."
