Kwong Wah Hospital announces a patient tested preliminarily positive to COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for the Kwong Wah Hospital (KWH) today (January 9) announced a male patient tested preliminarily positive to COVID-19.
          
     A 47-year-old male patient presented with headache was admitted to the medical surveillance ward of KWH on January 8.  Deep throat saliva test of COVID-19 was arranged for the patient as admission screening and the result was preliminarily positive to COVID-19.  The hospital had transferred the patient, in stable condition, to the isolation ward for treatment immediately. Upon contact tracing, one patient was identified as a close contact while five patients were identified as other contacts.  The close contact patient had been transferred to the isolation ward for treatment while the other contacts would continue to be treated in the medical surveillance ward.  All the patients concerned would receive COVID-19 tests and under medical surveillance.
      
     10 staff members had provided care for the preliminarily positive COVID-19 patient.  All of them had worn appropriate personal protective equipment.  The hospital would arrange COVID-19 tests for the respective staff and they would be under medical surveillance.
