The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:
The Judiciary today (February 28) announced the re-appointment of two incumbent Recorders of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.
The re-appointment of Mr Jason Pow Wing-nin, SC, and Mr Anthony Kenneth Houghton, SC, will be for three years commencing on March 1, 2019 upon expiry of their current terms.
The re-appointments are made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.
The biographical notes of the Recorders are as follows:
Mr Jason Pow Wing-nin, SC
Mr Pow, SC, was born in 1962 in Hong Kong. He obtained LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1985 and 1986 respectively. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1986 and was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2005. He has been in private practice since 1987. He was appointed as Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for periods in 2011 and 2012. He has been appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2013.
Mr Anthony Kenneth Houghton, SC
Mr Houghton, SC, was born in 1954 in the United Kingdom. He obtained LL.B. from the University of London in 1987. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1988 and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1989, and was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2008. He has been in private practice since 1989. He was appointed as Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for periods in 2011 and 2012. He has been appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2013.
