Judicial appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (July 8) announced the appointment of Miss Liza Jane Mary Cruden as a District Judge. The appointment will take effect on July 9, 2024.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

     Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.

     The biographical note of Miss Cruden is as follows:

     Miss Cruden was born in New Zealand in 1965. She obtained an LL.B. from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in 1987 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1988. She completed the Bar Finals Examination London, United Kingdom (Gray's Inn), and was called to the Bar in England and Wales in 1989. She was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1989. She has been in private practice since 1990. She was appointed as Temporary Deputy Registrar, High Court, and Deputy District Judge for periods in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024.
