ISD responds to media enquiries
In response to media enquiries on the Government News and Media Information System (GNMIS) operated by the Information Services Department (ISD), a spokesman for the ISD today (September 24) gave the following reply:
GNMIS is an online portal operated by the ISD to provide a platform integrating all government press releases, broadcasts, photographs and video clips for the media. Subscribers of GNMIS receive media invitations from the ISD and government bureaux/departments through GNMIS. Generally speaking, only subscribers of GNMIS are invited and admitted to press conferences or media events of the Government, including those held by government bureaux/departments.
GNMIS subscribers must be mass news media organisations whose principal business is the regular reporting of original news for dissemination to the general public. At present, eligible mass news media organisations, including online-only media, can apply to become subscribers of this system.
As of today, there are 206 GNMIS subscribers, which include local and Hong Kong-based overseas newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations, news agencies and online media. The scope of GNMIS subscribers is quite wide, with more than 30 of them being online-only media.
The ISD introduced an arrangement on September 19, 2017, to allow admission of eligible online-only media to government press conferences and media events, and that is still in place today.
