To cope with the substantial increase of housing production, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) will apply more smart technologies which will facilitate the strengthening of site safety supervision and collection of data for continuous enhancement of safety measures, the Permanent Secretary for Housing, Miss Rosanna Law, said today (September 28) at the opening of the Safety Forum for Works and Property Management Services 2023.

"The HA is committed to maintaining site safety as well as occupational safety and health to the highest standards with a view to safeguarding the safety of the work personnel. Apart from incorporating advanced construction technologies, we also extensively adopt the Modular Integrated Construction approach, implement the 'Design-and-Build' procurement model to leverage resources from the private sector, and optimise the entire construction process," Miss Law said.

In all its works contracts, the HA has incorporated safety requirements with a target to achieve "zero fatal accidents". In spite of the increase in production volume and expedition of the construction process, the HA strives to make every effort to enhance the site management standards, ensuring that all work is carried out in good quality and at a high safety standard.

The theme for the Safety Forum 2023 is "Do Your Best for Safety and Health of Workplace". Industry professionals were invited to share best practices and their valuable experiences in enhancing site safety. This year, the forum was held physically along with an online broadcast through which the safety information was widely disseminated to industry practitioners. On-site and online participants included works contractors, property services agents, cleaning and security service providers, representatives of supporting organisations, industry practitioners, the academia, and the works and estate management staff of the HA.

The annual Safety Forum, jointly organised by the HA, the Occupational Safety and Health Council and the Construction Industry Council, provides a regular platform for members of the industry to share experiences and best practices for safety. Over the years, the Forum has successfully enhanced safety awareness at all levels, from management to frontline staff, and fostered a culture of safety.
