The spokesperson for the Hospital Authority (HA) has the following statement today (January 13) regarding the industrial accident at the Kai Tak New Acute Hospital construction site:
The HA is very concerned about an industrial accident that occurred at the construction site of the New Acute Hospital in Kai Tak today. The HA has instructed the site contractor to follow up on this matter seriously and implement all necessary measures as soon as possible to ensure site safety. The HA on-site staff has immediately engaged with and followed up with the site contractor after the incident. The HA has requested the site contractor to thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident and submit a report to the HA promptly to prevent similar accidents from recurring. All scaffolding work at the site will be temporarily suspended, and the HA reserves the right to hold the construction contractor accountable.
The incident occurred at one of the buildings at the New Acute Hospital construction site, where curtain wall installation works were undergone. Main works contractor of the site is China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited.
The injured workers, who are employed by the site construction contractor, have been sent to public hospitals for treatment. The HA offers its sympathy to all those injured and will provide appropriate treatment for them.
