Hospital Authority expresses sorrow over passing of Sir David Akers-Jones

The following press release is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority expresses deepest condolences at the passing of Sir David Akers-Jones. Sir David had always been concerned towards about the welfare of patients, especially the residents of New Territories West. In view of the growing population, mostly grass-roots, Sir David engaged the community dignitaries with the local community to establish the New Territories West Cluster Hospitals Charitable Trust (Trust) in September 2007 to offer help to patients in need and promote a healthy community.
 
     On behalf of the New Territories West Cluster (NTWC), Cluster Chief Executive Dr Simon Tang expresses sadness and extends deepest condolences to Sir David's family. Dr Tang said, "Sir David had brought enormous contributions to NTWC. We truly respect and are moved by Sir David’s care for patients and his dedication in mobilising more social resources to those in need."
 
     Sir David had served as the Chairman and had led the Trust's activities since the Trust was established. Over the years, the Trust has funded various projects of the hospitals under NTWC, including acquisition of new medical equipment, subsidising patients who need to pay for medical consumables and improving hospital environment.
