The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hospital Authority (HA) Chairman, Mr Henry Fan, led a delegation to visit Guangdong Province for two consecutive days from yesterday (August 16) to learn about the latest healthcare developments on the Mainland, and explore the deepening of co-operation between the HA and various medical and healthcare institutions in Guangdong Province. Apart from meeting with the Health Commission of Guangdong Province (GDHC), the delegation also visited different hospitals to deepen understanding and explore opportunities for enhancing collaboration.
The delegation included HA board members and executives. The delegation yesterday first met with Deputy Director General of the GDHC Mr Huang Fei. The HA representatives introduced the latest situation of the Global Healthcare Talent Scheme and the Greater Bay Area Healthcare Talents Exchange Programme. Both parties exchanged views on comprehensively deepening co-operation between the public hospitals of the two places.
Mr Fan said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the GDHC for the staunch support. The GDHC has actively co-ordinated and supported the public hospitals and related units between the two places to carry out different forms of exchange and co-operation on hospital development, medical services and so on. With the support of the GDHC and the Health Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the HA launched various medical talent exchange programmes across different professional grades in the fourth quarter of 2022. These programmes have been carried out smoothly and received widespread positive feedback."
The delegation visited the Nansha Division of the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU) and the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) to explore their medical facilities and understand their latest developments. The delegation had in-depth exchanges with the medical teams led by the President of the FAH-SYSU, Professor Xiao Haipeng, and the Hospital Chief Executive of the HKU-SZH, Professor Kenneth Cheung, on strengthening bilateral exchanges and co-operation, promoting hospital development, and enhancing hospital management standards.
The delegation also met with the medical expert delegation and the medical support team that came to Hong Kong to assist in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Mr Fan once again expressed gratitude for their selfless dedication during the COVID-19 epidemic, and expressed hope that medical and healthcare institutions in the two places will continue to strengthen exchanges in the future.
