Hong Kong Maritime Week 2021 unveiled
The opening ceremony of Hong Kong Maritime Week 2021 (HKMW 2021), a major annual event of the maritime and port industries in Hong Kong, was held today (November 1).
The industries have been very supportive of HKMW and have been anticipating the return of the event after its cancelation last year due to the pandemic. HKMW 2021, co-organised with the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMPB), the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Invest Hong Kong as partners, lasts from October 31 to November 6.
Officiating at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the HKMPB and Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, said, "Being an international maritime centre, Hong Kong is not immune from global challenges faced by other port cities, particularly the disruptions caused by the pandemic. We put public health first and foremost; we also endeavour to do whatever we can to help ensure a smooth and steady flow of goods across the globe, with our port operating ceaselessly round the clock. Besides, we also facilitate sea crew changes, bunkering and re-provisioning in Hong Kong."
HKMW 2021 offers 38 activities organised by 43 local and international maritime bodies and covering nine topical themes, namely maritime education and career, green shipping and decarbonisation, marine insurance, maritime law and arbitration, maritime technology and digitalisation, port and logistics, ship finance, ship management, and shipping and maritime. Signature events include Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference, World Ocean Summit Insight Hour, Greater Bay Maritime Forum and HKMW Orienteering Race 2021.
Through a series of physical, online and hybrid activities, including conferences, forums, seminars, visits, tours, competitions and a family fun day, HKMW 2021 enables the international and local industries to gather together to promote Hong Kong as the preferred base for operating maritime business, enhance the awareness of general public towards maritime and port industries, and encourage and attract young people to join the industries.
