Hong Kong Customs sternly clarifies Internet rumour
With regard to a message claimed to be so-called new internal information of customs clearance circulated on the Internet platform by a self-claimed customs officer yesterday (October 6) alleging that there is a list of vehicles exempted from the customs clearance at boundary control points, Hong Kong Customs makes the following solemn clarification today (October 7):
Hong Kong Customs has all along been carrying out customs clearance over inbound and outbound passenger, cargo, postal article and conveyance strictly in accordance with the relevant legislation.
Hong Kong Customs sternly clarifies that the claimed vehicle list does not exist at all. The message spread is not a fact and the department gives severe condemnation to the spread of irresponsible, confusing and ill-willed misinformation.
It is noticed that the rumour was made by a self-claimed customs officer. Strict guidelines are in place to regulate officers' conduct and discipline and the department is now looking into the matter seriously. It stresses that severe follow-up action will be made in accordance with the law if any irregularities are proved.
