Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled smartphones (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs today (October 31) seized 100 suspected smuggled smartphones with an estimated market value of about $620,000 at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing container truck at Lok Ma Chau Control Point this morning and found the batch of smartphones concealed inside a false compartment in the driving compartment.

     A 55-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

     Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
