Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected herbal cannabis (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs seized about 5.2 kilograms of suspected herbal cannabis with an estimated market value of about $1.4 million at Hong Kong International Airport on May 20.

     A male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, Thailand in the morning on May 20. Upon examination of his suitcase, Customs officers found the suspected herbal cannabis concealed inside the suitcase. The man was then arrested.

     The arrested man, aged 40, has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (May 23).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
