Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital announces patient tests preliminarily positive for COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital (HKBH) made an announcement today (December 4) regarding an inpatient confirmed preliminarily positive to COVID-19:
      
     A 53-year-old patient of a female medical ward at HKBH was tested preliminarily positive to COVID-19 today (December 4). There was a nursing staff in the same ward tested positive to COVID-19 earlier (December 1). The patient concerned was transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for isolation treatment on December 2.
      
     Infection Control Team of HKBH has conducted contact tracing, and three other female patients who had stayed in the same cubicle with the confirmed patient are classified as close contacts. They will be quarantined for 14 days. COVID-19 test was arranged for them earlier and the test results were negative. The hospital will closely monitor health condition of patients concerned.
      
     Meanwhile, four healthcare workers who had performed aerosol-generating procedure for the patient without appropriate personal protective equipment are classified as close contacts and will be quarantined for 14 days. The hospital will continue the contract tracing according to prevailing guidelines.
      
     The hospital has arranged thorough cleansing and disinfection of the wards concerned. The hospital would continue to closely monitor the health of our staff and patients, as well as communicating with the CHP about the latest situation.
