In September and October 2019, British Ambassador Kate Smith, focused on hosting outreach events in the mainland regions of Thessali and the Peloponnese. An outreach event was also held on the island of Skiathos.
The Ambassador’s visits served as an opportunity to connect with UK nationals living in these regions to discuss Brexit first-hand and how it will affect them and their families. Providing current updates and information on what developments are underway, the Ambassador advised on Brexit preparedness and what UK nationals should be doing to ensure this.
All outreach events ended with open discussion, allowing for feedback and the opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns. Engaging with the audience, HMA Kate Smith emphasized that the rights of UK nationals living in the EU are a priority but that it is still very important to be prepared for Brexit.
The outreach events in the region of Thessali took place in Volos and the island of Skiathos nearby. In the Peloponnese, the events took place in Nafplion, Kalamata and Patras. In each of these cities, British Ambassador Kate Smith also met with local authorities and representatives of diverse industries, highlighting the excellent relationship the UK and Greece currently enjoy. Views were exchanged on the regions’ prospects and the prospect of strengthening ties in the commercial and business sectors. British Ambassador Kate Smith also visited a few local media outlets.
Outreach events will continue throughout Greece, as part of an ongoing effort to ensure that UK nationals have access to the information they need as the UK prepares to leave the EU.
