The Happy Hong Kong – A and F Carnival: Local Organic Watermelon Festival 2023 organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) commences today (June 22). The Watermelon Festival promotes local premium agricultural and fisheries products, and strengthens the sustainability of local agriculture and fisheries. The event also aims to provide members of the public with opportunities to enjoy happy moments together, thereby bringing more joy to the community.
The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, together with Legislative Council Member Mr Steven Ho; the Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Miss Diane Wong; the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Dr Leung Siu-fai and other guests officiated at the opening ceremony.
The first organic farmers' market of the Watermelon Festival takes place for four days from today at 1/F, Maritime Square 1. Members of the public can buy local organic agricultural and fisheries products at the market. The event includes organic life elements as well as other activities, including spectacular stage performances with youth participation, booth games and interesting talks for members of the public to enjoy. Regular local organic farmers' markets have also been invited to join the Watermelon Festival.
