In response to media enquiries in respect of the adjustment to the remuneration of the Chief Executive (CE), politically-appointed officials (PAOs) and Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Non-official Members) this year, a Government spokesman today (June 15) said the following:
According to the mechanism approved by the Legislative Council Finance Committee, the remuneration of the CE, PAOs and ExCo Non-official Members will be adjusted automatically on an annual basis in accordance with the relevant change in the Consumer Price Index (C) in the past year, with the annual adjustment cycle for the remuneration of the CE and PAOs starting from July 1 and that of the ExCo Non-official Members from October 1.
The CE, PAOs and ExCo Non-official Members have decided that for the adjustment this year, even if the relevant change in the Consumer Price Index (C) in the past year is positive, their remuneration will not be adjusted upward in accordance with the established mechanism. On the contrary, if the relevant change in the index is negative, their remuneration will be adjusted downward in accordance with the established mechanism.
