Government departments to take rigorous enforcement actions against non-compliance with anti-epidemic regulations during “Insects Awakening”
As the fifth wave of the epidemic is rampant, the Government had announced through publishing in the Gazette to tighten social distancing measures from February 10, including reducing the number of persons allowed per group gathering in a public place from four to two. The Government today (March 3) strongly advised members of the public to reduce unnecessary social contact so as to prevent further outbreak of the disease.
With the approach of “Insects Awakening”, the Chairman of Wan Chai District Council and Wan Chai District Office have reached consensus with the “petty person beating” major trade operators that the operators will not run business during “Insects Awakening” in order to avoid crowd congregation which will increase the risk of virus transmission.
Police and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) will take appropriate action while members of the public are urged not to conduct “petty person beating” activity underneath Canal Road Flyover in Wan Chai during the “Insects Awakening” period when law enforcement departments will rigorously carry out joint enforcement operation against non-compliance of anti-epidemic regulations and public cleaniness offences. Fixed penalty notices will be issued to offenders without prior warning. The FEHD will also arrange cleansing contractors to strengthen street cleaning services in areas concerned.
To combat the raging epidemic, members of the public should strictly comply with the anti-epidemic regulations and avoid crowd congregation in order to reduce the risk of virus transmission. The key to prevailing over the epidemic rests with every citizen’s effort and support.
