Government announces latest position of fresh food supply from Mainland
A Government spokesman announced today (February 15) that the fresh food supply from the Mainland had gradually bounced back yesterday.
As notified by the Shenzhen authorities concerned yesterday (February 14), a Hong Kong cross-boundary goods vehicle driver had tested positive in COVID-19 nucleic acid tests at the Man Kam To Control Point, and the Man Kam To Control Point had to undergo disinfection, leading to temporary disruption on the fresh food transportation. The Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government extended the operation of the boundary control point till midnight to allow fresh food trucks to return to Hong Kong smoothly.
According to the latest information from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and Vegetable Marketing Organization wholesale markets, the supply of vegetables from the Mainland increased yesterday (as at midnight) when compared with the previous day. The throughput volume was more than 11 800 picul (equivalent to about 714 000 kilograms), which was around 70 per cent of the volume of a normal day. The overall wholesale price has slightly dropped and it is anticipated that the overall supply of vegetables will continue to return to a stable level. The supply of chilled poultry and meat imported yesterday was around 60 per cent of a normal day. It is believed that the supply will gradually increase when the operation of the control point returns normal. The supply of live pigs is as usual.
