The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hospital Authority (HA) spokesman today (April 28) announced that 14 public holiday general out-patient clinics (GOPCs) will provide services on Labour Day (May 1) public holiday (see table below). Patients can make appointments of the next 24 hours through the telephone appointment system, or the "Book GOPC" function in the "HA Go" mobile application.
The Chairperson of the HA Coordinating Committee in Family Medicine, Dr Maria Leung, said that, "The influenza activity is on a high level recently. We also notice in the GOPCs that there are many patients suffering from influenza and COVID-19 while a number of children infected with influenza have more severe symptoms recently and their conditions tend to deteriorate quickly."
The HA will closely monitor the medical needs of the patients concerned, and provide suitable treatments. Meanwhile, the HA appeals to members of the public who have not received seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) to receive vaccination as soon as possible. Parents, in particular, should arrange vaccination for their children promptly, stay alert to their health condition and seek medical consultation in a timely manner when necessary. SIV is the most effective protection. If they are infected with influenza, the vaccination can reduce the risk of severe disease and death.
Dr Leung reminded members of the public that they should stay vigilant to personal and environmental hygiene during the public holiday, to avoid spreading diseases. People who develop respiratory symptoms should wear masks and seek medical advice promptly. Apart from GOPCs of the HA, patients may also consider attending consultation by private family doctors. To choose a suitable family doctor and related clinic service, the public can browse the Primary Care Directory of the Health Bureau at www.pcdirectory.gov.hk.
