Four Hongkong Post staff members test preliminarily positive for COVID-19
Hongkong Post said today (February 10) that a senior postman and three contract staff members have tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19.
The senior postman works in the Central Mail Centre (CMC) and is responsible for back-office work. He last performed duties on February 5. The three contract staff members include one operation assistant and one worker working at the Air Mail Centre (AMC) who both last performed duties on February 5, and one clerical staff member working in Hongkong Post Headquarters who last performed duties on February 7. All staff members are not required to have contact with the public and their workplaces are not open to the public. They underwent temperature screening when attending work and their body temperature was normal. They wore masks while on duty.
Upon notification of the above cases in this afternoon, in respect of the cases in the CMC and Hongkong Post Headquarters, Hongkong Post immediately arranged the co-workers of the two staff members concerned to undergo COVID-19 testing and thorough cleaning and disinfection of the workplaces and mail items concerned pursuant to the guidelines set out by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH).
For the two cases in the AMC which are the same workplace as an earlier case on February 6, the three staff members concerned had the same last day of performing duties on February 5. Hongkong Post had already arranged on February 6 the co-workers of the staff members concerned to undergo COVID-19 testing and thorough cleaning and disinfection of the workplace and mail items concerned pursuant to the guidelines set out by the CHP of the DH.
Arising from the case at the CMC, the processing of some mail at the CMC will be delayed. Hongkong Post apologises for the inconvenience caused. For enquiries, members of the public may call the Hongkong Post enquiry hotline at 2921 2222.
Hongkong Post will continue to implement measures for social distancing and infection control at all postal facilities to safeguard the health of staff and the public, and maintain close liaison with the CHP of the DH. Staff members are also reminded to take note of their personal hygiene and stay vigilant at all times, and are advised to seek medical advice immediately in case of feeling unwell.
