In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department today (October 1) presented the National Day Flag Raising Ceremony cum Drill Performance at the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence (MWRCD) with the Hong Kong Adventure Corps, the Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps and the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. Other activities including the guided tours and game booths were also arranged to enhance the cultivation of national identity as well as the understanding of the team spirit and discipline of youth uniform organisations. This is the first National Day Flag Raising Ceremony after the museum conversion on September 3 this year.
Over 100 young cadets of the uniformed groups participated in the drill performances in the morning, accompanied by military band music. A pattern of the number "75" was specially formed by the participants to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. After the ceremony, the public participated in the fixed point guided tours at the "War of Resistance Galleries" and the thematic exhibition "Brothers in Arms: War of Resistance Activities of the East River Column in Shenzhen and Hong Kong" and game booths themed on "the War of Resistance" and "Coastal Defence", aiming to enhance understanding of the public on the history of the War of Resistance and coastal defence, while cultivating and promoting the spirit of patriotism.
As one of the important bases for patriotic education, the MWRCD will roll out an array of public programmes, including lectures, field visits, workshops, and travelling exhibitions. For details, please refer to thewebsite: hk.waranddefence.museum/tc/web/mcd/activities.html#whats-on
