Fifteen registrations as ex-officio members of Election Committee determined as valid
The Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC) declared by notice in the Gazette today (July 23) the names of the 15 Election Committee (EC) ex-officio members who were determined to be validly registered.
The 15 registrations that have been determined as valid were made by Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC deputies) and HKSAR Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC members) who have registered as EC ex-officio members in a relevant subsector with substantial connection. Under such circumstances, these 15 NPC deputies and CPPCC members will take up the corresponding number of seats in the relevant subsectors, causing the number of seats that can be returned by election in these subsectors to be reduced accordingly.
The Government spokesman said that the CERC has accorded priority in reviewing the applications made by the NPC deputies and CPPCC members who have chosen to register with another subsector in which he or she has substantial connection so that the Chief Electoral Officer can announce the number of seats to be returned by election in each subsector in a timely manner.
The relevant gazette notice can be viewed at www.gld.gov.hk/egazette/pdf/202125197e/egn202125197457.pdf.
The CERC is continuing to determine the validity of the remaining 311 applications for registration as EC ex-officio members.
