Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tai Po this afternoon (June 9) in which a woman died.
At 1.13pm, a private car driven by a 52-year-old man was travelling along Sam Mun Tsai Road towards Sam Mun Tsai in an opposite direction of the traffic with one male and three female passengers, aged between 18 and 81, on board. When the private car was approaching 3 Yu On Street, it reportedly had a head-on collision with a private car driven by a 34-year-old woman travelling towards Ting Kok Road.
Sustaining no superficial injury, the 79-year-old female passenger was rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in unconscious state, and was certified dead at 2.19pm. Sustaining chest pain, the 81-year-old male passenger was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and later regained consciousness. The male and female driver, as well as the two passengers were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital and Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in conscious state.
The male driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Team one of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.
