Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin in the early hours today (February 14) in which a 27-year-old man died.
At about 3.30am, a taxi driven by the 27-year-old man was travelling along Yuen Wo Road towards Ma Liu Shui, while a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 31-year-old man was travelling along Fo Tan Road towards Ma On Shan. At the junction of Fo Tan Road and Yuen Wo Road, the vehicles reportedly collided.
The taxi driver, two 30-year-old male taxi passengers and a 30-year-old female taxi passenger were trapped inside the compartment and rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious head injury, the taxi driver was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 4.14am. The MGV driver in conscious state was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital while two taxi passengers were sent to Kwong Wah Hospital in conscious state. The other male taxi passenger was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in conscious state for medical treatment.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
