Fatal traffic accident in Sau Mau Ping
Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sau Mau Ping happened today (July 20) in which a 54-year-old woman died.
At 11.18am, a motorcycle driven by a 55-year-old man and a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 43-year-old man were travelling eastbound along the first right lane of Kwun Tong Road in sequence. When approaching the Ting Fu Street, a light goods vehicle cut the lane in front of the motorcycle. The MGV suspectedly failed to brake in time and bumped into the motorcycle.
The 54-year-old female passenger fell down from the motorcycle. Sustaining serious head injuries, she was rushed to United Christian Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 11.52am. The motorcycle driver was trapped under the MGV and was later rescued by firemen. Sustaining multiple injuries, he was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in conscious state.
The MGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, driving while disqualified and using vehicle without third party insurance. He is being detained for further enquiries.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is underway.
