ExCo Non-official Members visit Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel and Cross Bay Link, Tseung Kwan O (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Non-official Members) today (November 25) visited the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) and Cross Bay Link, Tseung Kwan O (Cross Bay Link) to see the preparations for the commissioning of the two projects on December 11.

Accompanied by the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung, and the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Ms Mable Chan, ExCo Non-official Members visited the tunnel branching area in the westbound tunnel and the eastern portal of the TKO-LTT. They received a briefing by Mr Michael Leung, Project Manager (East) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department, on the key features and design of the tunnel. The TKO-LTT project is a dual two-lane carriageway about 3.8 kilometres long, of which about 2.2 km is inside a tunnel. Members said they looked forward to the commissioning of the TKO-LTT and Cross Bay Link, which would help divert the traffic to and from Tseung Kwan O and relieve the traffic congestion in Tseung Kwan O Tunnel during peak hours, thereby shortening the commuting time for the public.

Members then visited the marine viaduct of the Cross Bay Link to receive a briefing on its design features and innovative elements. Members said they appreciated that the Cross Bay Link, which comprises a double-arch steel bridge, is the first marine viaduct in Hong Kong that contains carriageways, a cycle track and a footway.

The ExCo Non-official Members joining the visit today were Mr Jeffrey Lam, Mr Joseph Yam, Dr Lam Ching-choi, Mrs Margaret Leung and Mr Chan Kin-por.
