The Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Non-official Members) today (December 17) extended their warmest congratulations to Hong Kong swimming athlete Siobhan Bernadette Haughey on winning a gold medal in the Women's 200m Short Course Freestyle Championships and breaking the world record with a result of 1 minute 50.31 seconds.
The Convenor of the ExCo Non-official Members, Mr Bernard Chan, said, "After winning two silver medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey has not been complacent and has strived to break her own records. With her tireless efforts, Haughey shone once again at the international competition, winning the world championship and setting the first-ever swimming world record for Hong Kong. Her perseverance and indomitable spirit are truly admirable. The excellent achievements are testimony to the capability of Hong Kong athletes and have made Hong Kong people proud."
The ExCo Non-official Members wished Haughey stellar results in other events and expressed the hope that Hong Kong athletes will continue to excel in the international sports arena. The Members will continue to support the Government in promoting sports development in Hong Kong on all fronts through various policy measures.
