The Severn River Basin District is home to over 5.3 million people and covers an area of 21,590 square kilometres. The River Severn is the longest river in Britain and flows into the Severn Estuary. The river basin district includes the River Severn and its tributaries, the rivers of South East Wales, including the Wye, Usk and Taff, and those in Avon and Somerset that drain into the Severn Estuary.

Under the Flood Risk Regulations 2009, each lead local flood authority must carry out a preliminary flood risk assessment (PFRA) for its area and review it every 6 years.

PFRAs are used to identify areas where the risk of flooding is significant.

The Dee River Basin District lies partly in England and partly in Wales.

The Welsh part of the Dee River basin District includes parts of North East Wales. You can find information about flood risk planning in Wales on the Natural Resources Wales website.

The English part of the Dee River Basin District includes parts of Cheshire, Shropshire and the Wirral. Information on these areas is included in the preliminary flood risk assessments for Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council and Shropshire Council.

On 29 March 2018, the the Fishguard and Rosslare Railways and Harbours Company made a formal application to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) under section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for a Harbour Revision Order to construct a new linkspan bridge. The proposed project will involve the construction of a new linkspan to replace an existing linkspan currently at the project location.

The application is undergoing a 42 day public consultation, starting on 25 April 2018. The deadline for submitting comments is 06 June 2018. For further information on the consultation process, please review the advertisement notice.
