EMSD encourages public to use “Energy Saver” to select air-conditioners
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (June 24) reminded the public to conduct regular maintenance of air-conditioners in order to ensure the energy efficiency and the electrical safety of the appliances. In case of any abnormalities found in an air-conditioner, the inspection, maintenance and repair work should be carried out by an experienced and trained technician.
When purchasing air-conditioners, members of the public are encouraged to make good use of "Energy Saver" in the EMSD's mobile application "E&M Connect" to check and compare the energy efficiency and the estimated annual electricity charges of different models of air-conditioners. "Energy Saver" offers the following three simple and convenient ways for searching information about listed models under the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme to make instant comparisons of their energy efficiency:
(1) Scan an energy label with the camera and optical character recognition functions of a mobile phone;
(2) Enter the model/reference number on an energy label; or
(3) Enter the product type (e.g. single package type or split type air-conditioner) or its brand using the advanced search engine, and select the relevant products.
"E&M Connect" also offers other electronic services, including "E&M Finder" and "E&M Trade App", for easy access to latest updates from the EMSD.
