Qijuk Design Innovations (Asia-Pacific) Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department (LD) for failing to pay an employee's wages, totalling $229,000, within seven days after the expiry of the wage periods as required by the Employment Ordinance (EO). The employer was convicted today (July 6) at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts and fined a total of $54,000.
"The ruling helps disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages to employees within the time limit stipulated in the EO,” a spokesman of LD said.
"The Labour Department will not tolerate these offences and will continue to make dedicated efforts in enforcing the EO and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
