AMTD Risk Solutions Group Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department (LD) for failing to pay payment in lieu of notice to an employee within seven days after termination of the employment contract in accordance with the Employment Ordinance (EO). The amount involved was about $121,000. The employer pleaded guilty at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (January 14) and was fined $50,000.
"The ruling helps disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay payment in lieu of notice to employees within the time limit in accordance with the EO," a spokesman for LD said.
"The LD will not tolerate these offences and will continue to make dedicated efforts in enforcing the EO and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
